OK! She's ready to go. The Pixie dust quilt is ready to be sent off to Linda @ Cottage garden quilts to be quilted.
Thank you Linda for again, offering to quilt the donation quilts for me!
Your so awesome!!
Sorry for the not so great pictures, it's so hard to photograph big things in here and have enough light....
I pieced the back, yep, I sure did. I had to show off the fabulous print in large scale.
I have to say, that working with Pixie dust fabrics has been a real treat. It has a very nice weight and feels so soft, that cutting it and sewing it together, happens with great ease.

I have a question for you applique folks...
On the bit I appliqued on the bottom edge, should I cut the extra backing fabric away?
It feels so thick, and the whites look a bit brighter being doubled up on the overlap...
I'm thinking, YES, is the answer,
but didn't want to do so until I knew for sure...
Have a fabulous weekend!

This quilt looks great! I love the block you put in the corner of the border, nice touch. And I luv, luv that pieced back.
Go ahead and pat yourself on the back, you did great thing. You rock, girlfriend!!!!
Fantastic! It looks so good, thanks again for providing a way for us to help out. That cut away the backing question is sure to spark loads of debate. There's no one right answer in my opinion, especially if you are not hand quilting the quilt. In this case I'd say cut it away but leave yourself a generous seam allowance for stability (due to the fact that it's on the edge of the quilt). You might see if your longarmer has an opinion since she has to deal with quilting it and keeping the quilt square.
Fabulous! I love the flower you put in the corner.
It's going to finish up gorgeous V.

If you are talking about that part on the edge - leave the backing for stability especially since it is going to be long arm quilted.
You don't want it to stretch when she puts in on her rollers.
When I make "Snowball" type blocks with the sew & flip squares - I don't trim any of it away, so the long armer sews through 3 layers - none of my long armers has ever said a word.
Not unlike other aspects of quilting trimming the backing is matter of preference. Hand quilters do - to remove the bulk. I know others who make the decision based upon the size of the applique...
i NEVER cut away behind my applique
I believe it just needs the stability and don't want to take the chance of any unraveling
just mho.
the fabrics arrived today
now to decide what to do!

This is FAB!!! I invite you to come over...leave your link in my Mr. Linky ...I have a post up trying to feature quilt 'backs'. I thinks its fun to see and share the back side too!!
It looks great! I love that little flower in the corner. So cute!
I cut away my backing bits and it seemed to look better when I did. More like one piece of fabric instead of layers. It probably won't matter really.
The quilt is looking awesome!!! Can't wait to see it quilted and it really comes to life. Good job V!
You did a beautiful job putting it together and I especially love your applique on the corner. As far as cutting away, I don't like to have more than 2 layers there, so I am in the cutting away camp, but I'm a novice!

It looks awesome! Can't wait to see it finished! Did you say that you already know what charity it's going to? Or is this one where you need ideas? Not that I have any offhand--but wondered if I needed to start thinking about it!
looks great!
You did a great job putting our blocks together and I like the back too. It was a joy to be part of this gather. Show us again when you get it back from the quilter.
