As part of Park city girl, Blogger's Quilt Festival,
I'd like to show you my favorite quilt.
When I think of a quilt that sums up the most of what I like to make,
It would have to be this one called,
Cheap Hotels
62" X 82"
I kept for a long time a box to collect all my black & white scraps, then one day began sewing them together very randomly.
This is the process I find the most satisfying. You never know what you r gonna get and you let the fabrics speak to you and let the design emerge.
Once I got most of the black and white bits together, I realized how much it looked
like the new "Cheap Hotels" being built right out side my window...
What I stare at every day as I sit at my computer...
This quilt is not yet, quilted... I haven't been able to decide if it needs to be hand quilted, or machine, or HOW to be quilted....
***
I love to experiment and make many kinds of quilts,
but this is the process I keep coming back to and find these quilts to be my most satisfying...
Here's a few others, done in this similar style, that I love. Again, a bunch are not quilted, as I just don't know how to finish them yet.... The ones finished, are hand quilted.
I'm waiting for the bolt of inspiration to hit me over the head!
(and the yet to be finished...)

V, these are great quilts...like how you use different colorways and there is lots of movement. Thanks for sharing....
Your quilt show is so wonderful V! I am so inspired by your work and so glad I found your blog. Keep on inspiring!
Very Gees Bend!
they just let it flow too.
Nice work :0)
Happy Sewing
Love it! I'm going to have to try to do something like this - your quilts always look so great. How about another online quilt "class"? One that can help me make the bottom quilt. lol
Cheap Hotels is a great name for a quilt! And I love the colour flow. :)
Love your style and LOVE Cheap Hotels!!! Can't wait to see them quilted!
I'm a true fan you know, but this morning's offering took my breath away. Thanks for giving us these lovelies today. I can't play favorites, loved them all.
Love Cheap Hotels but my favorite of yours is the red one from this past few months. I soooo love the reds. This last piece is amazing and I can't imagine how you will quilt it but I know it will be fabulous.
AS always< so much eye candy! Wow! Love Cheap Hotels, and all the others too! Thanks for sharing them with us V! :o,
I love the third one from the bottom (with the purple binding). The set of triangles looks just like a piece of fabric has come loose and is being peeled back to reveal another layer underneath !
I like your spontaneous stlye. That's fascinating that the hotels being built made such a mark on your psyche that it came out subconciously in a quilt design !
Fabulous as usual! It really looks like a work of art and I can't wait to see it quilted. It's also wonderful how you come up with names!
Great quilt! I'll have to start getting some black and white together some of these days, or rather navy and white--as I like navy better, I think
I continue to enjoy your free spirited quilting and love the black, white and red quilt.
great quilts...i love your work with solid prints! cheap hotels is the cherry on top!
Cool quilt! I really like it...
V, I look forward to reading your posts and seeing your quilts. These are just amazing. I love the colors and how creative you are. Thanks for sharing these wonderful quilts!
I LOVE Cheap Hotels. With my limited knowledge of NYC I know what area you are speaking of.
If it were my quilt I could see the whole thing quilted with little stars, to mimic the city lights. Or lost of vertical lines. But it isn't my quilt and I will be excited to see what you do.
Thank you for sharing your quilt and the others, too. Love them all, and that style of putting them together really gets the creative juices flowing - in the maker and the view. Thanks again,
Ann.
Hi V. I love Cheap Hotels.
Wonderful colours, especially the bottom one and the second from the top.
V, I like the name as much as the quilt! My favorite from this post, though, is the last picture which is yet unquilted. Serene, lovely, and chic. Nice job on them all.
Another "V" Vivika
These are terrific quilts. Thanks for sharing how you creatively put the blocks together. I haven't tried that but I think I will. It sounds fun and after a while following a pattern gets boring. Any other pointers to randomly putting blocks together? So glad I found your blog.
Wow. This is striking. I really like it.
Amazing what happens when you just let go. It looks so striking.
I love "Cheap Hotels"! Wonderful name....inspiration right at your window!
-another Wolfe :^)
You certainly have great color sense. love your work.
You are a spectacular quilter! You've got lovely work! Thank you for sharing.
The black and white is great! I like to just start sewing fabric together and see what comes out too. SO muchmore fun than using a pattern!
Ooh I like your cheap hotels quilt, very interesting and colourful. Your last one has caught my eye too with the colourful stripes. Beautiful xo
This is exactly how I want to start quilting - I love your work!
Wow! The black & white is so engaging. I love it!

The Cheap Hotels quilt is great! I like the simply black and white and also the contrast of blue and red.
Thanks for sharing
these are great. i tried improv for the first time recently and i loved it
love the modern-ness and the bright colors. it reminds me of gees bend quilts too. i'll check back to see how the quilting goes!
Very cool quilt. It seams like a new way of quilting that I should try sometime. Very artistic and modern. The name suits it well too. Great job!
It totally looks like a cheap hotel!
Gorgeous quilt! The black and white is stunning! I can't wait to see how you quilt Cheap Hotels.
I like how your random sewing turns out :-) Looking forward to see them quilted too.
Love them! They remind me of the GeesBend quilts.
Wonderful work!
I love that the name is as interesting as the quilt!
I love your quilts; the cheap hotels are fabulous!
I'm excited to see how you finish! It is amazing how something so inspired can come from your scrap bin! Keep it up :)
Very creative, fabulous quilts!
I like Cheap Hotels very much. It has a real Nancy Crow feel to it. I enjoy your style of quilt making too - I am an 'organic quilter' too and much prefer to let a quilt evolve rather than preplan it.
Simple quilting to resemble long thin buildings in a heavy thread would suit this quilt I think.
GREAT designs. Love the graphic black and white one a lot.
I like it the quilt very nice.
Marika
Your quilts are all stunning.
