Lovely Detours

I feel like I took a big detour lately, and wanted to get back to other projects I had started before the waverunner...

I had started these applique projects and have gotten so taken in by them. I bought a couple books to figure out how to bead and embroider them a bit...
But now that
i got this batik project off my wall...

(remember the trees that shelly and I made?)
they became this...

I wanted to get back to my Dresden plate quilt...

I started cutting into all that fabulous YELLOW i picked up in Houston,
And then realized I wanted to do the same sort of thing as those little applique projects!
So now...

I have yellow in the main background part and I am blending from yellow to yellow/pink and then finally a pink border...

Once I have that done I will play around with the plates,
but for now I tacked them up to see if I like.
I LIKE!

So I guess the Detour was worth it! It's lead me on a new path... Gotta love that!
Have a great weekend!

locks for love

The one that got away...
I had almost forgotten about this quilt... The one I really wanted to bring home from Houston... an 1800's quilt from England all done in a very heavy broadcloth, almost like a denim material and had the dog quilted out of it... I can't imagine how they could push a needle through it... Simple, MODERN, and Fantastic! And way to expensive for me... rats. But it was nice to feel it & experience it anyway...
Ain't she a beauty!

I am trying to get stuff finished around here and off my design walls. I'm not moving to fast...
So nothing interesting to show you of mine..

Anne at film and thread, used up her hubby's work shirts and fabulous orange fabric to make her wave runner... great fun!

Remember this post? click here

Since B had a day off of school yesterday, we BOTH went and CUT our for locks for love...
Her deal with me, was SHE would get to cut off my hair.... And so she did. ;-)
Guess I need to change my profile picture!

We went to see Where the Wild things are...
What a great movie... Deep, thoughtful,Difficult and Fabulous...
When is the last time you stood on a cliff and howled?
(my favorite bit in the movie)
go see it.

I know I said I would wait to start another quilt as I have many to finish,
But I already gathered my scrap blocks to make more of these... fast fun, and uses up a lot of scraps! it will go into a quilt to go along with orange and turq one I posted yesterday...
Fun fun fun!
I just need a couple things off my design wall to get this rocking...

Tonya of lazy gal is posting a quilt I put together with the help of many of her Blog pals, when we found out she would be having surgery... We did it very Tonya style, and I have to say, it was SO much fun to put together...

Some Waverunner Finishes...

Cathy finished up her top, with some Kaffe fabrics! And Juanita broke out the batiks!

I'm loving how you all just went and made these all your own. Very inspiring Everyone!

love these blocks!

I am having so much fun with this kind of simple block.
I just keep digging through my box of squares cut from scraps, and putting more and more together...
I'm thinking a large quilt is next like this... But I have some others to FINISH first!
sigh. of well, it will wait...

***
Waverunner

I have to say what Fun it has been to see all these quilts come together.
From your fabric selections, to your layouts. I'm impressed by all of you, newbies and sewing enthusiasts for trying something new and taking off with flying colors!

I happy to see that many have taken my start and took off in their own direction!
That had been the greatest joy to watch.

I encourage everyone to break away from patterns and try something new.(once in a while)
Not that there is anything wrong with patterns, mind you.

But I think we all have a few PATTERNS that need to break free from us...
And it's exciting to see, and feel when you've expressed your self 100% from your own creative being.

Rene' has a great start on her Waverunner...
She's got the wavy bug! go see what other waves she's creating...

Jaclyn's colors are floating away! Love the combo!! pure water waverunner!

Beth got Funky with her inspiration fabric! And go see what she sewn it together with!

Michele has her top done. Ready for assembly...

I will continue to post Completed tops once a week from here on out.
I know many of you are only beginning, and that is fine.

Drop me a line when you've got your top done.
no hurry, and have fun!

sick day

Leave it to my girl... She wanted a B wall hanging, and Boy, did she get a B wall hanging!
She decided she wanted it to be for Buddha, so with her help in choosing fabrics and ideas,
She choose, flowers to make it look like Buddha is sitting on a lotus flower, and made sure to include 7 offering bowls... Which we will make into pockets...
"Mom, it also needs to RADIATE!!!.." she says
So she selected the golden-y green beams of light...

The girl knows what she wants, that's for sure...

Not a bad, "stay at home sick day with mom" sort of project!

But I now have APPLIQUE coming out of my ears!

At least it's FUN!

Carolyn W. has some great colors going together on her waverunner!

Siobhan is almost done!

And Mary IS DONE!

I'm thinking perhaps I don't need to do a post about layout...

I'm thinking you guys guys have it all going on! woo hoo!

If you want help with lay out, perhaps email me...
The fun part is laying it all out, filling in,
and adding your personal touches like Mary did on the border...
I love that!

let's see what you can come up with...

Anyone else?
How are the rest of you doing?

sunday

Here's a little block leftover from the first waverunner quilt...
So don't throw your bits away! Lots of goodies to be made with the scraps!

The end of my garden.... Raspberries! i thought they'd be done by now, but my plants are full!
Had to break out some recipes to find a yummy use for them...
Something I haven't been doing a lot of lately... need to cook more... been a bit lazy.

Here's a little scrappy waverunner table runner swap gift! I love how it turned out. And it was fun to practice my machine quilting on! straight lines, something I haven't really done much of...

A little pay it forward gift... just finishing the binding. Love, love, love the colors on this one. I can see doing a whole quilt soon of these colors... just yummy.

When did the leaves change? boy I must be out of it... I feel like i missed the season!
me and B are now officially sick. so it will be a lazy week!

How are your waverunners coming along?

2 babies

Here's my two (BABIES)....old Quilts, I saved from a collector in Houston,
who was going to use these quilts as Cutters!!!
Can you believe they were going to make STUFFED PIGS out of these?
As I was standing chatting with Shelly and Shelly and her cowboy,
I spotted this quilt over their shoulders...
I'm not a big fan of sunflowers, but this quilt was speaking to me... So after we parted ways, I went to check it out... It had these giant black center on it, and I thought, gee, that sure doesn't look right to me, I bet you something really cool is underneath that. So after I bought it, I got it to my hotel room, and immediately cut one of the big circles off, and look what was underneath.

It's the same pattern I used for the corner applique on the pixie dust quilt! No wonder I was drawn to it!! So now I have some repairs to make... Also that yellow, I'm rather obsessed with right now... yummy.

Here is the other doomed to be a stuffed toy.... I feel slightly guilty that I snatched this one up,
as Shelly was eyeing it too. The quilting is fantastic on it.. and I just love the color combo. it reminded me of the Anna Griffin Alix fabrics I loved...same color combo... the quilting knocks your sox off... So these are my two babies I saved on this trip. I could have taken more home. But, I didn't. I 'm very happy with my purchases... ;-)

Millie got a great start on her Waverunner, I like the texture the blender fabrics make....
Upstate Lisa, decided yesterday she wanted to play along... This a.m. I got this image!
Girlie, were you up all night? Love those hand dyed fabrics!!!

You can click the two top right hand pictures of my blog to
take you to the tutorial and to the videos on making your own Waverunner Quilt.
Don't forget to send me an email when you post, or send me some images...
thanks!

***********

Cheryl & Rene both asked to see the other letter artworks
I have sent in for our school
Alphabet projects...

here are images from the past years...

The First year I had the letter B

Second year I gave them the letter S, But I had two images and I couldn't decide which to use... One was obvious (above) and one was more artistic and imaginative.
(below, Andy Goldsworthy, sculpture at Storm King,NY)
So I gave them both.

Then last year, I got very cryptic. My letter was M... it's sort of a Where's Waldo...
Can you find the M? It was such a fun image I had to use it... it was a big hit...
need a clue? look at the shadows...

So I feel like I am taking a risk giving a Quilted "B" this year...
Everyone has been asking what images I've come up with... hmmm,, not an i mage this year....
So we'll see if they like quilt-y things...
See last post for the image.
