decisions

Circles and Stripes top is done! Yippee! I've wanted to do a nice stripe quilt for ages... So I finally got around to it... I might not want to let this quilt go... I just love red.

So indecisive today!
These are family blocks that me, B, my mother and niece made.
My original idea was to put one of each blocks into lap quilts one for each of us...
The fabrics I had chosen, once I made them, I really disliked them. So they sat in a box for a year. Then as I was cleaning up my stash I had this yellow/brown weird fabric,
(I'd always wondered why on earth i bought it) then it struck me, those old blocks!

So I dug them out, and decided to punch them up with some solids. I will use the stripe for borders. But now that I have a bunch of the blocks all scrappy and wonky, I kind of like them all in one big quilt!!!!
so now I don't know what to do... 4 lap quilts? or one big one? (I'm leaning for one big one)

Then, I did this snow boots, hats scarves ear muffs gloves and snowball applique a week or so ago. And I had decided to use up my swap Xmas blocks, like in the first picture, but finishing it off with a nice red border ALL around...
But then again, I could just make TWO MORE blocks and put them all together with a red border ALL around... and put the applique in entirely something else.... !!!!!!!
argh!~ this one I really can't decide what to do with....

what to do, what to do...

I lean towards all log cabins, as the applique picture thing is so not me, it hit me one day as a fun project to try to machine applique, but I have hand appliqued them... The red dots are actually ear muffs if your wondering I just haven't gotten around to putting the strap on it in the photo...

Becky was giving away some scraps, so I offered to swap some scraps with her so I'd have some new goodies to play with... here's my stash! And a few cute little holiday ornaments!
Thanks Becky!

Love the circles and stripes - so clever. It looks hard, but it's not. Do you have a tutorial with measurements for that circle block?

They are all so striking - as usual! The Circles and Stripes is fabulous, the family blocks are very cool - what size are they once you've got your solid borders on them? I can appreciate your dilema - they look great all together, but having something for everyone involved is also a cool idea! And your Xmas swap blocks - I like them with the applique, but I also like them all together - so I'm no help at all! : )

I like the all log cabins too, but I am not a fan of applique. The circles and stripes look great.

Oooo! I love all three, but I can't wait to snuggle under the Christmas one. You're going to send it to me when you're done, right?? Ha!

You sooo inspire me with all you get done!

Loving the red quilt - very very cool! I think the applique is its own thing - or needs something other than the log cabin blocks. More red?? Maybe it could be a table runner or seasonal wall hanging on its own? It's hard to tell the size from the pic. Hope inspiration strikes!

Man, where have I been? Certainly not in blog-land. Look how much you've been up to and I haven't even been around for a "how-do?"

Fun strips quilt! I bought a bunch of red fabric this week and I thought of you and all your fun red quilts. Love it!

Love to see you playing around. Can't wait to see how all those things sort themselves out.

I bet B's excited to see a holiday ornament in that stash...fun!

Hugs!

When I get stuck in a loop of indecision like this, I freeze up! I love the family blocks and would probably made one large quilt cuz it would get more use. Love the red circles! Very modern and fun.

My two cents: I agree with keeping all the log cabins together and the winter mix applique for something. It might be too much stuff going on in one quilt. Some subtle Christmasy fabric might make the applique really POP.

I, too, ADORE the circles and stripes quilt. It's amazing!!! My mouth is hanging open in awe.

That is a lot of decisions! My vote goes for 4 lap quilts, but only because I like the sparse look of a few blocks on a big background. As for the Christmas quilt, I like it without the applique. Although, the applique is quite cute too,

I'm loving those circles and stripes too....what a great idea to create your own background fabric for applique! Good work, V!

I adore your red circles quilt and love where you put it to take the photo's, is that on your roof? Fabulous view. I think I have to make a circles quilt too, they are so lovely. You get so much done, I'm in awe xo

Love, love, love the circle quilt! What's great is that it could be pieced as drunkard's path blocks or quick appliqued as circles and split to make the scrappy quarter circles. Also love the contrast top border.

Another commenter suggested a tutorial - and while I'd also love that too(who doesn't love a free pattern and the exclusivity of a pattern know only to your faithful readers?), I also would encourage you to submit this one to a magazine like F&P's "Easy Quilts", "Quiltmaker" or QNM and get to share your work and style with a larger audience. What do you say, ready to be published?
