I started straight in last night... Couldn't help myself!



This piece is coming right along. I know exactly what I want from it...
A mixture of memories from my grandmothers house, the quilts she made and all that fabulous 40's wallpaper that covered her walls... Funny that this started from thinking about a cheese and crackers quilt! Funny how the mind wanders!
Grandma's house... that's a good name for this one...

time for finishes

Pinned and ready to quilt... My tile quilt (old posts here) finally has it's red borders... (!!) (see old post) I'm very happy to be in the home stretch on this quilt... So i can start another.... ;-) I have gone through my scraps in preparing for one more... Bigger... Now I jsut need to figure out how I am going to quilt this...On my mini one for AAQI,(old posts) I randomly sewn in the brown background fabric, then went back in by hand and quilted the appliqued pieces... I like the texture it gave, so I may do the same on the larger quilt...

Today is the day to get these border son this Chinese new Year Quilt... And I hope to get this quilted this week also... Time is running out! B had some input to the borders, two sides left and I can put the backing on...

And the 8 SIS BOOM POW! Kids quilts(click here) have their backings and are shipped off to Linda to quilt... Yippee!! It's a grand Monday!

Monsters

Here's the second little AAQI (click here)quilt finished... I called it "Memories",
as it includes so many things that make up a family and home...fragments here and there...

These are so satisfying to make...
Please note that they collect these all year long...
so if you can't help make one now, please put it on your "List of things to do"


Giant free pieced Monster aka: Kitchen sink quilt (click here).... I put 4 hours into it today...
As I was attaching one last piece, I put it together, stitched it, then thought,
Oh! that was wrong... and I ripped it out.. only to realize, it was right in the first place....
That's when you know you've hit your limit for the day on one project....

Thankfully some of the bits left on the wall are sewn together already... but many joining and filler pieces are yet to be figured as I sew along trying to make it all fit together...
Some of you may recognize some left over blocks from the 9 patch gather quilt

Lots of memories here for sure!


Since I am taking a break on that quilt, I am about to start sewing together the SIS BOOM POW! blocks for the latest donation quilt.
We've decided to make them into
8 baby/kids blankets,
and I hope to get two tops sewn together today... I really want to get them pieced this week...
It's just sashing 6 blocks each... I think they will go quickly.

I had two old quilt tops here that I cut backs for today also. I'm happy to have them on there way to be quilted soon. they are great funky tops...

And this block was done for the One Block over Quilt bee(click here)... I'm still trying to decide what block I want for this bee.... I have March, so I better get crackin' figuring it out.
I actually followed a pattern for this! Aren't you proud of me! ;-)

Absence from my sewing machine has sparked my motivation!
Here is one AAQI(click here) quilt I started last night... It started with a thought about old traditions in quilting, new ways and possible futuristic ways... Then, this morning as I sat with B at breakfast she said, you should put words on it,
Forget the past, Enjoy the presence, be Hopeful for the future...
I think it's fitting... So when I quilted it, I put feathers in a traditional pattern around the outside, cross hatched the middle over the waverunner like bits, and then overlaid strips in a modern design over the whole thing...
I'm very happy with the way it turned out...
I hope you all make at least one to send in to Ami!!


I am just finishing the binding on the little tile one I also did for AAQI...
I love how the quilting puffed up all the appliques...

Speaking of my tiles quilt. I did finish all the appliques over the Christmas break... I was excited to get home and finish it as I knew I had the border already cut for it... You may recall this picture (here) Well, do you think I could find those border anywhere???
I searched through everything in my studio at least three times looking for them this morning...
Then I started to think, what on earth would have done with them...

I knew it was the same fabrics I had used in the Chinese new Year top, but only tiny bits... I knew I had used the same red in the doll quilt I just finished, (first for 2010!) but that was only a tiny bit as well... then as I went to my kitchen, there laying on the sofa was my Xmas log cabin quilt (here)... and guess what? there was my borders for my tile quilt... duh! and do you think I can find anymore of that fabric??? NOPE... oh well.. I had to order something new now...

But, the good news is, I found a lot of orphan blocks that have now made it into my Kitchen sink quilt(click here).... It's a big mama, let me tell you, right now it's at 100 X 94" I want to try to bring it out to 97" so it will fit nicely over my bed... I'd say I have 1/2 of this pieced... and another half to go... I make take one day this week and just work on it all day... I need my wall back so It needs to get done!!

I got the borders on this Oopsie quilt(click here)... Just need to find a backing... appliques are done.

I was happy to see when I got home, that this arrived... I won it on ebay. The squares are the size of a penny.... Isn't it fabulous!! no holes, or tears.. perfectly lovely.

And lastly, Pheew, I know a long post today... Joanna at applique today (click here) made this very cute mini waveruuner....

end of lazy

I am so hooked on these little appliques....
I finished this little one for the donation for AAQI (see last post)
I am definitely going to start another one of these... a big one... to work on the side...between the other 10 I have going... Sigh.

We drove up to Riverhead today to do some shopping, and we passed the BIG DUCK, an information stop/hut for long Island...
we liked how they dressed him up for the holidays and have his eyes light up red now!

Every time I go into my quilt photo files I come across this quilt, and I say,

I really want one of these... perhaps in 2010 I will.

Many "quilt" wants...

I have already begun one of mine AAQI quilts for this year... Working the way I did on my

tile quilt(click here) process... As I am sewing machine free this week, I finished all my other projects and still had itchy fingers... ;-)

I just love how these collage together....

I think I may do a mini waverunner(click for links to old posts)also... just for fun...



I encourage all of you to at least come up with one 9" X 12" quilt.

Try something new! Try something old! try something out of the box!





Last year, Was the first time I did free pieced letters, under the direction of Tonya of lazy gal, when she offered up this challenge... it was a great way to start a process. A small, worthy project to try something new... Go check Tonya's site too for some other great ideas... her solids are fantastic. This little one of mine was in honor of my husband's Brother who had just past away... Robin's Hope to get an idea of how it gets set up.

So long 2009... You've been a good year for me. Creatively and in Pure Joy and Happiness.

Here's to 2010, Let's see what it will bring!
